Reeboks With The Strap

I made this a month or two ago to play out (right around when Flo-Rida dethroned Britney as “most persistent/inappropriate request of the evening”) and here it is at 320 with extended intro and outro for the deejays: “Low” over one of my favorite house tracks from last year. MASH! It’s gonna be on a new mixtape coming out next month (Midnight Snack), but enjoy it now.

Hail Hail

A remix I did for Philly’s Hail Social just came out. I put it up for listening on my MySpace, and you can buy it on this EP at Amazon for $5.34 with a bunch of other good tracks. iTunes soon.

Atlanta Georgia

Two summers ago I visited Atlanta for the first time. Drove around in Will Welch’s Honda Accord with him and Michael Schmelling, got hamburgers and frosted oranges from the Varsity, and went to Killer Mike and Bubba Sparxxx’s houses.

The album Mike was recording at the time, Ghetto Extraordinary, finally came out this past Friday, on the internet. It’s great. Not sure what Bubba is up to at the moment - I think he’s on Koch - but here’s his “Pocket Fulla Midz” anyway, perhaps my favorite song about mid-grade drugs ever recorded.

Goings On

Bunch of shows to the left (to the left), the Fool’s Gold blog finally moved from our MySpace page to a place where people will actually read it (plus we got shirts for sale!), Cosmo Baker drops science, DJ Soul has fun with the 90s, Snoop has fun with the 80s, and Todd Terje has fun with GNFnR.

Also people seem really into the vinyl rips, so I will keep them coming: here’s the 12″ version of “Finally” edited for mixing out after the 2nd chorus, made real quick tonight to play at the High Top Fades release party.

She’ll Be Calling You Kelly When Your Name Is Tommy

Shep and I went to see the Pied Piper of R&B over Thanksgiving weekend. Jams. Confetti. All I’m going to tack on to her wrap-up is that, during the prerecorded montage of T-Pains and Kanyes and Ciaras wishing they could be at the (Your Arena Here) show, the most audience cheers - by far! - went to Common. Because R Kelly’s fans are old. Does that make me old? This song is from 2000 and I had to rip it from the 12″ because the YoungBloodz version on iTunes is wildly inferior. Of the collected works of Robert Kelly, definitely in my Top 5. “I ain’t drunk, but I’m real nice.”

R Kelly, “Feelin On Yo Booty (Dirty South Mix f. Boo & Gotti)”

WFMU

They still keep old Grand Royal issues in the bathroom! I guested on DJ Rupture’s show a few weeks back, and you can check out the playlist and stream that episode here or download it here.

Hypnotize Minds

The Hypnotic Brass Ensemble’s 10/29 show at Highline Ballroom is now a handy collection of mp3s that really fucking jam. Esp. this Art of Noise cover.

Bonus beat: here’s a blend I did with their “War” and a Roc-A-Fella classic that people would always ask about when I would play it on EVR (usually right before or after Soulja Slim and Rebirth Brass Band’s “You Don’t Wanna Go To War.”)

Dut Du Dut, Dut Du Dut, Dut, Du Dut

A bunch of recent tracks from Wale have hit the interweb - keep an ear on the “Elevators” and “Kiss Kiss” remixes and his cover of Meth and Mary’s “All I Need” with Tawiah.

Get that 100 Miles And Running mixtape Wale and I dropped earlier this summer while you’re at it. Here’s a video of us opening for dead prez in San Francisco a month or two back.
