Son Of Lavadome

Excellent ACG retrospective. I’m still trying to find out a trail runner they made around the 97/98 Terra Humara era, had the same little diamond mountain logo on the tongue, came in forest green and navy blue colorways, sorta looked like Air Bursts with a chunky tan gum sole. Had em at Champs. HELP MEEEE!

(Sidebar: how come they never reissue Air Max 98s? Shits were comfy.)

Fun new podcast mix from Sabo for XLR8R. My mix from last September is still up too, hint hint.

This Red Cafe press shot (NSFW) doesn’t look like it was comfortable for anyone. Somehow still not tired of his Anita Baker + “Sing Sing” joint though.

Mi amigo Mike Jones started a “inspiration” Tumblr of stuff he comes across in the design process. I’m with that. Some of the absolute best stuff on the internet is the random by-products of Google image searches and eBay rabbit holes, its nice to see them together as a narrative. PS The spring season of Mishka gear is out now and it’s twistin my melon, man.

DON’T FORGET TO RSVP FOR FRIDAY!

CAM’S BACK!

Erik Larsen’s “Obama Vs Osama” cover of The Savage Dragon reminded me of a convo I had w/ Duster the other day about how all the Image comics dudes look like their drawings - maybe not the gigantor muscles or pointy feet, but definitely the expressions (see: Woodman’s in-costume MTV Korea interview with Jim Lee). One day I’ll get around to scanning pages from my old ‘91 era convention sketchbook. Highlight: Evan Dorkin’s Sharpie sketch of Milk & Cheese shouting “BURN YOUR COMICS!”

Ric Flair Woo-ography. NYU protest nipples. Zaytoven beat raffle (”7 TICKETS FOR $500!”). papoose is the corniest rapper alive. LA pal Adam has a new record out from his band Pollyn, check it out cause they are groovy. More rejected XXXChange remixes. New skuzz rock 7″ on Mad Decent from Popo, who I played paintball with (Derek did you record this? Bass sounds Bleach Novoselic-y, I likes).

We put out two new records on Fool’s Gold in the past two weeks, debut singles from young Italian raveologist Congorock and my big Bay homie Trackademicks (whose release party was epic). BUY DEM!

Also next edition of Flashing Lights is March 6th w/ Mixhell and Nacho Lovers. We have a website! RSVP y’all. Here’s pics from the last one.

Willy Joy Found This

Although the weird Barbie Girl version I was thinking about the other day was this one (“ragga mix” FTW).

Tonz O Gunz Linkz

Hysterical NSFW trailer for Seth Rogen, Aziz, and friends’ Observe And Report. While we’re gettin raunchy, let’s pit “Sex You Down Pt 2” by Oakland’s J Nash (”The Bobby Brown Of The ‘Town!”) against “Birthday Sex” by Chicago’s Jeremih (shout to Trackademicks and Kid Sis for the respective finds).

Some hip-house rips. Kenny Dope live funk 45 set at Bump Shop. Mikix The Cat’s Wu Tang track. “Oh shit Gang Gang!” Mannie Fresh still knows his way around an intro.

Back in real life, here’s some pics from the last Flashing Lights/my birthday on Roxy’s site and my Flickr. Some more Flickerage from last weekend’s show in Hawaii (at DJ Harvey’s club!), if anyone else has show pics from this past week, or whenever, please send em in! Was a good tour. Saw a lot of this guy on Edmonton hotel TV.

Return To Puppy Mountain

Anyone here ever heard of Deltron 3030? Sh1t is bugged out… lol

More blastz from the past: Janet Jackson “Miss You Much (Oh I Like That Mix)”. Dante remembers Brand Nubian. Aziz remembers Mac And Me. Thorough Mishka “Black Bart” retrospective. Matt Goias YouTube spectacular. Real long Don Ienner Q&A, Toad The Wet Sprocket and Nas no big deal.

We’re getting neon logo signs for the office but what I really need is a “Word On The Street” joint.

Winter’s Not So Bad

Well, no, it is the worst. But you gotta smile.

To that end: here’s DJ Elwood’s tape recording (spotted on Wayne’s Twitter) of Funkmaster Flex live on the radio from New Year’s Eve 1994. Strictly OG dance, groovy electro and uptempo R&B classics. A tasty and timely earmuff.
